The Theatre of Herceg Novi has the pleasure to present Herceg Novi April Theatre Festival (HAPS). This event was established with the aim to make Herceg Novi the city of tradition of culture and art. Every year since 1996 in the period from the 15th April – 30th April the Theatre of Herceg Novi hosts numerous theatres.

HAPS was initially designed to host amateur theaters of ex-Yugoslavia and those theatres that hosted the Theatre of Herceg Novi at other festivals. Its program was made to be diverse, to present new forms, to present interesting programs for children, youth and adults. As of the beginning, HAPS also hosted reputable (professional) theatres and its turning point in this sense was the year 2002. The need of the Theatre of Herceg Novi to professionalize its work was realized to a large extent through HAPS which resulted with the increased quality. Now, HAPS program includes performances of reputable professional theatrical companies and actors from Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Macedonia. This change was welcomed by the professional and general public and has contributed to HAPS’s blossoming and becoming a very important theatrical event not only in Montenegro but also in the region. Since then April has become a month which hosts theatre culture at the stage of “Park”, the month in which many theatres and artists perform.

HAPS’s accompanying programs are numerous exhibitions, literary evenings and book promotions, jazz evenings, concerts of classical music and round tables dedicated to modern times in theatre.
From 2001 HAPS Directorate has been awarding a plaque “Miloš Šami” in memory of a director Miloš Šami who established the present theatrical company. It is awarded to artists who have made special contribution to the promotion of Herceg Novi April Theatre Festival. Winners of the plaque are: Youth Theatre of Novi Sad (2001 - Whose Little Piece Am I?), Jelisaveta Seka Sablić, Ljuba Tadić, Petar Kralj, Predrag Ejdus, Varja Đukić, Mirko Vlahović, Pera Kvrgić (2009 – Stylistic Exercises).
